Process Engineer (Hi-Temperature/ Process Manufacturing) (KY)
Scope of Position:
Process engineer (for Company Operations near Lexington, KY) who applies project skills and engineering principles to lead and support the development, trial, and deployment of new technology to improve Company’s continuous melting process. Hi temperature manufacturing process. Projects involve technologies to improve yield, increase throughput, or improve robustness of the melting process.
Lead and support projects to develop melting technologies to improve process performance through yield improvements, higher throughput, and longer system life. Interface with design engineers, materials engineers, R&D, and plant operations through different stages of project work.
Lead and support trials of melting technologies in manufacturing plants.
Lead technical assessments and data analyses to identify opportunities for process and equipment improvement and to evaluate technology trials.
Design and implementation of process experiments.
Average 20-30%, 1-2 trips a year to Asia for 3-5 weeks out; domestic to 2 to 4 trips Central NY State for a 3- 5 days.
Occasionally up to 40%, primarily to Asia with some domestic travel.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
Office hours are typically 8AM-5PM, Monday - Friday
Evening conference calls with teams in Asia (typically between 8PM-10PM) are sometimes required. Frequency of these meetings depends on project assignment.
Weekend work and/or travel sometimes required.
B.S. in Engineering - Glass science, Ceramic engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
Required Years and Area of Experience:
3 years to 5 years of relevant work experience (Glass, Ceramic, Metals, etc. melting and/or other high temp process manufacturing experience highly preferred.)
Technically curious - seeks information needed to succeed in becoming a glass melting expert.
Strong technical skills - able to learn and apply to defect formation mechanisms, understanding of heat and mass transfer, understanding of materials, thermodynamics, and kinetics.
Analytical skills - ability to use rigorous data analysis and distill into concise results.
Problem-solving skills - ability to handle technical challenges using scientific methodology.
MS Office computing skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
Glass making or other high temperature continuous process experience
Statistical analysis skill and/or experimental design experience.
Project leadership skills - vision, planning, and execution
