Essential Functions of the Position (Please List): R&D Engineer (Levels 1 through 6): Through in-depth knowledge of multiphase reaction engineering, provides technical insights into the functioning of the various chemical processes relevant to the Silane manufacturing. Provides in-depth analysis of plant data across various chemical processes to identify opportunities for improved control of the processes involving gas-liquid-solid stirred reactors. Provide support to peers on an as-needed basis.
Organizational Relationships Involved in Position (who is supported, supervised, etc.): Reports To Director of Research & Development Direct Reports None Supports R&D, Technology group and Production

Education desired for ideal candidate: Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering
Work Experience: What types of work experience are desired for this position and how many years of that experience are necessary to fill this role? Solid understanding of multiphase chemical reaction engineering in mechanically agitated vessels is required with at least 2 years of demonstrated industrial experience. Candidate has to be familiar with and demonstrate state-of-the-art capabilities in reactor start-up/shut-down as well as all unit processes around such reactors. Any experience with slurry handling would be a plus. Knowledge of CFD is not required but would be a plus. Willingness to step-up-to-the-plate in crisis situations and function as a process engineer.
What certifications (if any) are desired or useful in this position?

Position Title: (Sr.) R&D Engineer
Basic Description of Job Function (single sentence): CFD modeling of reactive multiphase chemical processes
Essential Functions of the Position (Please List): (Sr.) R&D Engineer (Levels 1 through 6): Company intends to hire a motivated expert in quantitative reactive (fluid) flow dynamics. The researcher is expected to be able to quantify and analyze single phase and multiphase fluid systems involving various homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reactions. A strong background in analysis and mathematical description of physical systems in addition to the ability to solve the system equations is essential for this position. The candidates expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) must be based on a clear understanding of secular and cross-functional idea of science and engineering. Specifically, the candidate is expected to provide simulation-based guidance for evaluating performance of existing and design of new/modified process equipment pertinent to Silane & Polysilicon manufacturing: 1. The candidate is expected to be highly proficient in 3D CFD using commercial software (preferably Fluent) to support the simulation needs of various process equipment. Responsibilities include interfacing with corporate R&D in model development and implementation, as well as process engineering to establish the required model inputs. The range of CFD activities would include modeling multiphase systems like stirred vessels and fluidized bed reactors via simulating coupled flow, thermal and mass transfer with reactions. 2. The candidate needs to have a very strong understanding of the fundamentals describing physical systems, and an ability to connect physics with mathematical models. He/she should also have a skill-set in verifying the accuracy and consistency of simulation results from complex 3D CFD models. 3. Any experience in coupled 3D thermal and structural analysis via FEA using commercial software would be a definite plus but NOT REPLACEMENT for REACTIVE MULTIPHASE BACKGROUND. Skill-set in analyzing fatigue, creep and simulation of induction heating via coupled thermal & electromagnetic analysis would be desirable, as would be some understanding of 3D Solid-modeling that culminates into providing technical direction to CAD designers/draftsmen, with as-needed hands-on 3D solid-model development.
The candidate should be able to work under strict time-constraints to build and solve models of varying complexities depending on the need for speed of a solution. He/she is also expected to provide support to peers on an as-needed basis.

Experience with FEA and 3D Solid modeling is not compulsorily required but would be a huge plus. Any knowledge of fluidized bed reactors, stirred reactors, distillation columns, thin-film drying would be a highly desirable. Willingness to step-up-to-the-plate in crisis situations and function as a shift-engineer.
What certifications (if any) are desired or useful in this position? 4. Basic and advanced Fluent user training would be extremely useful 5. Any CAD and FEA software training would be highly desirable
